MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY MANAGER

Position Overview:

This is a full-time, technical position to conceive and develop volume manufacturing technologies and processes for the company’s emerging energy storage product line. The successful candidate will evaluate designs for manufacturability, facilitate rapid prototyping, perform cost modeling and make-buy analyses, and subsequently develop suppliers/supply strategies and trial manufacturing technologies and processes. Reliability analyses and statistical process control (SPC) methods will also be applied to ensure high product reliability and yield. The role will involve extensive interaction with the component and subsystem development teams on performance/risk trades for components throughout the product design cycle. Finally, the candidate will begin to assemble the team needed to realize the optimum manufacturing vision for the company. This position requires 10-20% travel, roughly half expected to be international.

We are a dynamic young company located in Cambridge, MA, close to public transportation.

Qualifications:

The candidate will bring significant experience taking products from concept to volume production (> 1000 units/year) within schedule and cost constraints. Experience in developing manufacturing processes for new products is required. Experience with production cost modeling is also required, including the modeling of manufacturing process flow. A demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a varied supplier base is also a key requirement for the position. Relevant experience in energy conversion devices (e.g. fuel cells, batteries, ultra-capacitors), or similar manufactured technologies, is of critical importance. A working understanding of Quality Functional Deployment and Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) fundamentals is also desirable. Good communication skills are essential, as well as a willingness to travel. The candidate must have a minimum of B.S. (M.S. desirable) in mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, or chemical engineering and 10+ years of relevant experience.
